The Bridge
Investigator: Saga Noren is Malmö's lead murder detective who constantly does not know when to take a break that is evident in the scene after her wife had her leg blown off.
Sidekick: Hanne Thosen is Copenhagen's lead murder detective and in the first episode she is paired with Saga but demands to be excluded from the case because of Saga.
Boss: Hans Petterson is Malmö's police commissioner and this archetype is emphasised because he's the first one after the explosion scene to get Saga to go home.
Nordic Noir: a crime fiction genre written from a police viewpoint set in the Nordic countries
Key Elements- Dark plots are usually present within this genre, generally with a flawed protagonist and social realism that are highly prominent in The Bridge as the storey follows our Protagonist, a detective who is not quite open and runs away from her issues by working to solve the murder of a woman who fought societal norms by working. by opening neutral gender schools and seeking to eliminate 'The Nuclear Family'
The Bridge has several enigmas, the obvious one is at the beginning where we are shown the crime scene, but the enigma is not solved at the end unlike typical crime dramas, but leaves the end on a cliff-hanger signalling that this enigma will span and grow deeper.
The conventions of women in the crime drama genre are significantly subverted throughout this episode of The Bridge as many powerful independent women are prominent in the episode, such as the protagonist Saga is the lead detective being strong and confident as the other women throughout the episode including Hanne. The scene where Hanne gets her leg blown off and the saga immediately works to save Hanne is an example that confirms this.
The explosion scene is a strong use of technical codes as we get closer and closer to the explosion that we as the audience start to feel on the edge because unique sounds are audible and Saga's output looks suspiciously around as the camera constantly moves from the door to a large shot giving priority to the door and giving the audience a que to the next big plot sequence
