a) What is meant by a mainstream film ? [2]

a film that has a large budget and the soul purpose of it is to create profit, they are created by the larger film studios.

 b) Briefly explain what a media conglomerate is. [2]

is a media company that owns multiple other media companies to mass produce.

 c) Explain two features of independent  film production. Refer briefly to  I, Daniel Blake r to support your   points. [6]

location - independent film has less amount of filming locations due to profit, they will use the same areas multiple times throughout the film, seen in I Daniel Blake as they use the same areas throughout the film.

cast - independent film uses non celebrity cast and actors with not a lot of experience due to money they will have to pay them a lower as lack of experience and celebrity endorsement, seen in I Daniele Blake as they do not have any celebrities throughout the film and the cast hasn't had many major roles in any other film or television.

d) Explain how economic contexts shape mainstream films. Refer to Black Panther  to support your points.

There are a few reasons why economic contexts will still influence commercial films. To begin with, funding is one of the economic contexts that would change every film. For example, if an independent industry produces a film, it would be more difficult for them to be funded because they do not have a strong reputation or are not famous enough to be funded. Black Panther, on the other hand, is produced by a major film studio, making it easier to raise funds because Marvel is known for successful films and is well-known for their superhero franchise, as opposed to other independent studios. This is an issue in the film industry, where Marvel dominates the industry with all of these successful films, while independent studios fail to raise funds. This relates to ownership; whether a film is good or bad depends on who made it; typically, commercial companies have more success with their films because they are more popular. Like Black Panther, it was a success mostly due to the fact that it was produced by Marvel; however, Marvel's popularity has improved now that they are owned by Disney, which is also well-known. Disney is attempting to maximize their audience through vertical and horizontal integration, which means that they own similar companies like Disney as well as a number of other companies that aren't so similar but are a very successful way of being very famous. This aided Black Panther's popularity by broadening the range of viewers. David Hesmondhalgh's theory that the biggest corporations or conglomerates today work through a variety of cultural sectors to maximize their audience backs this up.
