PAPER 1 Section B : EXAM QUESTION LNWH

The radio industry has grown to reach a broader audience with a broader variety of topics and to include a broad range of ages as radio has evolved and migrated to the internet through episodic
podcasts, one example of this is The Late Night Woman's Hour, this podcast focuses primarily on female audiences of all ages, as the host of the show is Emma Barnett, who is a female audience.
British broadcaster and journalist and show consists of more feminine subjects to cater to a wide variety of female viewers for example "Missing Friends" and "Extreme Breast Feeding" even the podcast has numerous female guests from diverse backgrounds including fitness, science and entertainment to cater to an even wider range of viewers.

Another example of Radio viewers is Radio 4, on which Late Night Woman's Hour appears, Radio 4 is known to draw white middle-aged middle-class viewers as a show like The Archers, a British Soap Opera in rural England, where the characters were originally farmers, thereby attracting an older mostly white audience as the radio became a medium of entertainment for older generations because most younger audiences have migrated to the internet and with this technological evolution BBC Radio shows are now available for listening to on the internet. BBC Radio 4 usually consists of broadcasting drama, chat and news, since its target audience is older and more sophisticated.

With the changes in technology, particularly with the rapid progression of internet growth, radio has become less and less popular with the advancement of the internet, so radio has had to evolve which has led to the rise of podcasts and the rapid success of podcasts. The difference between podcasts and radio is however that podcasts are typically pre-recorded and are Edited to be anywhere from an hour to a few hours, while radio is often live, this modern medium of radio broadcast has gained a new audience with the success of podcasts, as BBC Radio has created a wide range of podcasts attracting a wide range of listeners, as podcasts typically have a small target audience and as the BBC has a number of podcasts to be heard on its website. Allowing the use of their services to this wide range of audiences.
